Ownership Confirms Farmingdale Lanes Closing For Good

This story is breaking and has been corroborated and confirmed by owner Joe LaSpina.

It seems another Long Island bowling center is closing and this one is a doozy.

Word was received early this morning that Farmingdale Lanes, located at 999 Conklin Street in Farmingdale, will be shuttering its doors and closing for good as of this Wednesday, August 18th.   It is being reported that league members began receiving news from the higher ups that their leagues, some with 2 and 3 weeks remaining in the summer, will not be finishing up as the center will be closing this week.

As for the reasons for the closing, while nothing is certain, ownership chose not to put up barriers between lanes when the COVID restrictions were loosened. Because of this, the center was only able to operate at 50% of capacity and the loss in revenue may have factored into their decision to close.

Rumor has it that ownership has sold the business to the sports complex located next door.  I am  being told that the owners of the bowling alley must be out of the building by Thursday of next week and the building must be totally vacated by Tuesday. The center itself, as mentioned above, will be closed for business permanently this Wednesday.

Management has confirmed that all league prize funds will be paid out the week before the center closes and that no summer leagues will be missing more than 2 weeks.

Maple Lanes as a business was opened in 1962 by the LaSpina brothers, Joe and John.  They currently own centers in Coram, Rockville Centre and Flushing.

Update: The below memo was distributed via the Farmingdale Lanes social media page at about 5:50PM this afternoon.
